Larry Peabody (DMin., Bakke Graduate University) writes from a unique perspective on the work world. After years of working, it finally hit him: no one had ever explained to him why getting up and going to work mattered to God. Sure, like most people, Larry worked to pay the bills. But there had to be more than that to justify spending 100,000 prime-time hours or so at work over a lifetime.

In his late twenties, Larry began searching Scripture for what God has revealed about the activity that today occupies nearly 3.5 billion around the globe. This led, in his early thirties, to his first book on working. Back then it was called SECULAR WORK IS FULL-TIME SERVICE. More recently the publisher has renamed it SERVING CHRIST IN THE WORKPLACE. Larry’s second book on work came out in 2010: JOB-SHADOWING DANIEL: WALKING THE TALK AT WORK.

His trajectory has taken him through a variety of work roles. As a teenager—asparagus cutter and sugar beet weeder. While in Wheaton College—middle school janitor and McDonald’s employee. After college graduation—information officer for government agencies, business writing consultant, church planter, senior pastor, and graduate school theology-of-work professor.

And now, in his most recent book, Larry explains what he has discovered over a lifetime about God’s answer to the “Why work?” question. GOD LOVES YOUR WORK: DISCOVER WHY HE SENDS YOU TO DO WHAT YOU DO, published by Wipf and Stock, is available from Amazon.com.

He and his wife, Sharon, reside in Lacey, Washington. They have three children and 10 grandchildren.
